Diplomiral je iz sociologije. \u017de v srednji \u0161oli je pisal pesmi, po diplomi pa je leta 1974 izdal svojo prvo zbirko poezije &#8216;<em>Voices of the Living and the Dead<\/em>&#8216;. Leta 1975 je sledila druga, &#8216;<em>Dread Beat an&#8217; Blood<\/em>&#8216;, tudi naslov njegove prve plo\u0161\u010de leta 1978.
